I received an Error #1 Message stating, "Display not connected COM ..." What do I do?
This error occurs when the sign was connected to the computer before installing the software. Follow these steps to get the software properly installed.
Note: These steps illustrate the solution in Windows XP, the steps are similar for Windows 2000.
Click OK and follow the steps below.
- Close the Beta Brite Prism Messaging Software application and all other Beta Brite Prism related screens.
- Close or minimize all your open programs so you can see your desktop.
- Right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties.
The System Properties dialog opens.

- Click the Hardware tab.
- Click the Device Manager button.
- Expand the Universal Serial bus controllers item and locate the USB Bulk Device item (it will have a yellow exclamation point next to it).
Note: If you don't see this device in the list, there may be a problem with either the cable or the sign. Call Adaptive Micro Systems.
- In the USB BULK Device properties dialog, click the Reinstall Driver button.

The Hardware update wizard opens.
- On the first screen of the Hardware Update Wizard, select the No, not this time option and click Next.
- On the next screen, make sure Install the software automatically (Recommended) is selected and click Next.
- A Hardware Installation or Windows Testing message opens, click Continue Anyway.
- If the Insert Disk message appears, do the following:
This message may appear even if the Beta Brite Prism Messaging Software CD is in the drive.
- Make sure the Beta Brite Prism Messaging Software CD is in the drive.
- Click OK.
- In the Files Needed dialog, click the Browse button.
- Navigate to the CD-ROM drive the Beta Brite Prism Messaging Software CD-ROM is in.

- Double-click the software folder.

- Double-click the appropriate folder for your Windows Operating system.
For Windows 98, use the 98 usb driver folder.
For Windows XP and Windows 2000, use the 2000 usb driver folder.
- In the driver folder, double-click the USBBulk.sys file.

- The Locate File dialog closes and the path to the file appears in the Files Needed dialog. Click OK.
- Windows completes the driver installation. When it's done, click the Finish button.
- Go to your Start menu and select Beta Brite Messaging Software.
The software will now work properly and will be able to send messages to your sign.
